Hi, Just finished putting a Jaycar KC5202 Programmable Ignition Kit into Otto, This is an obsolete kit and has been superceded by a more sophisticated one. I bought the 5202 off eBay still in its original packaging probably 15 years old. The kit has made a worthwhile improvement to the drivablity of the 1968 998 auto mini compared to the original distributor. Idle is much more stable, acceleration good, top speed excellent, the engine runs cooler and the final plus the timing chain has stopped rattling. I suspect fuel consumption will also be better. I believe that certainly the Australian built Lucas distributors leave a lot to be desired, wearing and becoming inaccurate with very little mileage. Anyone else dumped the stock ignition system? Jock

I'm running the 123 distributor. It does idle better but I'm not sure which curve to run and my engine's pretty worn as well.

Looks interesting, the full advance looks a little short unless its distributor degrees, I was of the opinion that a reasonably stock A series needs around 34 deg full advance Jock

The old point,s are something from the stoneage. I put an electronic dizzy from a metro on my mini 30 when i first got it, it made a massive difference, mainly instant starting as opposed to cranking, and also the idle was much smooother. My new engine build has a trigger wheel and mappable ignition (which i,m yet to fire up).

The timing advance on the 123 is in addition to the initial advance.

I think it is 16. I'll have to check my paperwork. Has an LED for setting the timing without a strobe light.

I'm running that one. I'm going to put it in my 1275 when I finally get it built. My 998 is pretty worn out.
