hi there, i have just purchased a Wolseley 1300 auto on a k plate, 71, when i test drove it it going through gears ok, just once gave a slight sharp judder cos i tried a fast pull away, which i found not possible, lol, and i thought it would be a cv joint but on driving it back to me dads, 20 miles the gear change wasnt as smooth, i thought a good bit of new oil will do it as i knew it was showing just below min when i checked it, when i got home we topped it up with the classic 20/50 then went for a drive, it started to make a noisy shreal sound when changing into 2nd gear, not every time, on tuesday we drove it home, 80 miles, no different but drove ok, tho sluggish, any ways went to go out in it yesterday afternoon and the gears was slipping in it real bad even tho it was ok when parked up, checked oil today and that seems all good tho a little black, nobody seems interested in the garages around this way or they dont get back to me, can anyone advise?

Change your oil to 10w40, preferable motorcycle oil with MA2 on the bottle. I mistakingly put 20w50 in mine when I first got it and had similar issues to yours. With 10w40 it now shifts great all the time.

Yes, get the 20W-50 out of there and replace with MA2 motorcycle oil, 10W-40. It has additives to make the discs grab. Might take a day or so to soak into the saturated discs. 20W-50 does not displace from the discs.
If that doesn't work, you are in for adjustments or rebuild.

would that be part or fully synthetic, as i cant see any ma2 oil thats not synthetic, ? I doesn't matter whether it is synthetic or not, as long as it meets the MA2 spec. For now I'd use a mineral oil, as you are still looking for the problem and might have to tear things apart if that is not the problem.
