I have the Foulis automatic transmission book. In it, on pages 170-172, it explains about two sizes of oil element and spring. It refers to engines with numbers (quote) Larger capacity (longer) elements were introduced on the 1100/1300 at engine Nos. 10AG/A/H 15904, 10AJ/A/H 1825, 12H/111/A/H 364 AND 12H/115/A/H 1184. (enquote) My engine No. is 12H292B H4409. from 1969. Is mine in this lot or do I have the short element?
The long spring is for the short element and short for long.
Original short elements are Mini 8G 760 and 1100/1300 8G 2573 (12G 819 also)
Long element 22A 1388
Here is some more usefull information.
"The torque figure for the filter bowl retaining bolt is 10-15 lb ft.
"A transmission front cover which does not have locating rings for the filter head 'O' rings has been introduced for the Mini and 1100. On the 1300 this cover was fitted from the commencement of production. The later cover necessitated a different gasket incorporating two sealing rings.
"INTRODUCTORY CHANGE POINTS (Engine Nos.)
10AG/A/H 15888 99H/143/A/A 1655 99H/147/A/H 167
10AR/A/H/ 2357 99H/119/A/H 406
" If the complete filter assembly is removed from the front cover to fit a new filter element, the gasket must be renewed. Failure to do this may result in insufficient internal sealing and therefore low pressure and transmission slip.
" In no circumstances must gasket 22A 1388 be used on vehicles with front covers incorporating ring locating grooves."
I have assembly diagrams and part numbers for short and long element assemblies if someone should need them.
Cheers,
Mark
