Hi Am having a problem with my 1990 mini mayfair. It will start fine run for about 3-5 mins then cut out. When i try and re-start it it coughs mis-fires and backfire and just wont run.If i leave it to cool down for about 20mins it will start fine and then cut out again after the same amount of time.It seems as if something is breaking down as it gets warm.Am very confused ::)as have tried what i think are the usual suspects ie points, condenser ,leads, coil even fuel but to no avail has anyone got any other ideas as it did this about 4 months ago for about a week then cleared but this time seems to be here to stay.Any advice would be much appreciated. regards Brian

Any chance there is a vacuum forming in the fuel tank stopping the flow?

I had another think about this and I think it happened to me when the vapour line from the float bowl to the charcoal canister got blocked.

i know it sounds daft, but is the carb dashpot got any oil in it? my car started running like a pig during the summer and i tried everything but couldn,t fix it. in the end the carb was bone dry and the piston was sticking.

hi not sure what carb your running but sounds like fule starvation, especially the bit about it clearing up,, try cleaning out the float bowl and get rid of all that horrid gunk that collects at the bottom just before it gets to the jet,

I'd also be inclined to check operation of the needle valve (the valve the float moves)

my 68 matic was doing that too! turns out I had pin Splinter sized hole in the fuel line near the fuel pump. Once that was fixed, it was fine again.
