Where to start! I don't think your oil is the reason. I'm afraid I am ignorant of how later 998s are configured, my car is a 1968 auto so I know my way around Lucas (Australia) distributors and 1.5" SU carbs. my car accelerates better these days since I put in an electronic ignition system its not so much the new system is better but the worn distributor was messing up the timing and the performance. SU carbs can get sticky and not open fully. The gearbox changing up to 4th too soon is a common problem despite adjusting the kick down rod, does the car accelerate better if held in gear manually and the engine allowed to rev? Jock
