Hi, My first post and I thought I'd dive straight in.... last October I bought my Jap Auto from the chap who imported it last year (I'm its registered first owner in the UK), up until this week everything has been fine, but now it won't engage in reverse or 'D'. Moving off through 1, 2, and 3 it's fine but changing into 'D' on the move it just revs and doesn't engage. I had the oil changed while the MOT was being done in January by a local garage who know old Minis very well and I've done around three hundred miles or so since then. Am I looking at a rebuild...? the car has done just over 96,000 kilometres / 60,000 miles. Any tips / help gratefully received as I'm on the verge of selling it so I can get my Mk2 S finished! Cheers, Nidge

Does it go into Park(if yours has park)? I'm guessing SPI which will have park. Maybe the cable is loose. Do you know what oil was put in? Maybe Martin will chime in as he knows these trannys as well as anyone. I believe top and reverse clutch are the same. Might be a rebuild in your future but there are things to check first.

Thanks for the reply - yes it has park and goes in ok (it's an SPi). Wish I'd asked which oil went in but can easily find out next week. Is the cable easy to get at and adjust..?
Cheers, Nidge.

If it goes into park your cable is probably fine. Doesn't sound good but there are people on here who know these transmissions much better than me.

Where do you live? Maybe there is someone close that might be able to help.
