I am new to Mini ownership. I have only had mine for a few weeks, but this forum had been a life savior. My 92 1.3 SPI Japan spec Rover Mini came with its owners manual, all in Japanese. I need help identifying the buttons and switches. Other than the defrost, hazard and headlight switches, I am at a loss. the one on the left looks like a brake pedal, and comes on sometimes when I brake hard, but what does it do? he one in the middle looks like a fog light switch, but I don't have fog lights. the pull knob on the right seems to be stuck, but what is it supposed to do? Many thanks for the help.

The switch with the brake pedal is actually a warning light. Pushing it in just makes it light up to see if it works. Check the fluid level.
The fog light is on the rear of the car and red and should only work with the headlights on if I remember correctly.
The pull cable is to shut off coolant to the heater core to control the temperature of the heater. Mine leaks if I don't leave it in the open position.

Thanks for the help.
Now that we are in the middle of both weeks of winter here in Florida, I could use some heat. What combination of buttons, switches and levers do I manipulate to turn on the heat in this thing?

Wow, wow! The brake warning light tells something more when it lihtens up when braking. The Mini has a 'seperated' braking system. That means there are two circuits working independant from each other divided over the four wheels. So, when one circuit is broken, the other one can still stop your car. This means, that you should be warned in the case that it is so. To prevent you go on like nothing happened. For that purpose ther e is a warning light. Engineers have been so clever to join the two circuits at some point and put there a 'switch' that enlightens the brake warning light whem it 'feels' that one one side of the junction there is a lower pressure when you put te brake pedal down. Lower pressure means 'there is possibly a leak'. So you have been warned by th elight that you should investigate if there is a actual leak in one of the circuits.

This also applies to my '69 America. It has a unit between the two circuits that can sense the difference between them with a plunger. It engages a switch for the warning light. Mine is mounted on the firewall just right of centre. It has a name. I'll try to find it.

PDWA. If all brake circuits are in balance then the shuttle stays in the middle, at the point where one 'leaks' the shuttle moves over triggering the warning light switch and closing off the faulty brake circuit simples! After repair you have to manually put the shuttle back into the middle done by removing the switch module and either looking at it or inserting a small pointed object (scriber)and gently sliding the shuttle back to the middle. (at least thats the way the Stag one works)
It was used in many BL / BMC cars Triumph Stag uses the same one I think. have a look on Rimmer Bros the parts illustrations are good .
