Hi all, I have a 1999 JDM (Jap) model automatic which like all the late cars from the back of 1996 to the end of production in early 2000 were a combination of an MPi engine block mated to the AP2 gearbox. Someone was telling me the other day that the casting is different on these late cars as the oil ways to the engine are different for the MPi block, so you cannot interchange an early 1990's AP2 box with the late 96 onwards ?
I have never seen this written down anywhere, so was wondering if there is a definitive guide that covers all variations right up to 2000 for the AP2 box, as I need to get mine repaired or replaced and I am struggling to find any that are the same that will be a direct fit.
I assume the internals will be the same with all later AP2 boxes, so may just be the casting of the box that is different for the oil.
Does anyone know for sure?
Thanks, Andy

Hi Andy, have you tried Albanache, although his user name may be slightly different. He had a fully rebuilt auto box from a 98 jap import sitting in the rack in his workshop, as he used to import them back from Japan, it was a while back but you never know. Drop him a line. All the best Terry.

I've tried sending him a message on here, but no response - I don't think he has logged in for a long time :-(
I have a couple of leads now on sourcing a late jap auto box and have just bought an older Auto box to have a play with out of interest !
Is Martin (MRA) not here anymore either ?
