Hi all,
I was just wondering if it's possible to fit an IDA weber to 1275 Auto? The main issue that i foresee is fitting the kick down mechanism.
Does anyone have any experience with something similar?
If it won't work will twin HS4 fit ok with the kickdown?
Thanks in advance

Hi Barry, not too clued up on ida webers but i know thier the upright type, do they make a manifold for the mini?, with enough enthusiasm anything is possible, i have found having an auto ive had to make custom parts for lots of applications as no one seems to cater for them, i,m currently fitting specialist components injection system to my 1098 mini 30 auto, when i enquired with S/c, they told me they dont make them for autoamtics!, they made me want to do it even more. Check out some of my previous photos, the kick down was an issue.

Hi, thanks for replying, i have found some manifolds, maniflow link being the one i would trust the most. unfortunately I don't have the ability to make my own parts, so maybe ill have to get creative with existing parts.

A few of the guys on here have lcb manifolds on their auto,s , some fit better than others. I have a stainless lcb from S/C and clears everthing comfortably but i have heard of people having fouling issues. What engine are you currently running?.

yeah i had no issues with the maniflow from mini spares. it used to be 998 but currently the engine is 1275 'stage 1' but i have just ordered a flowed/ported head and 1.5 rockers. need to source better carb as its the HS4 at the moment which is why I'm looking at the webers because you just cant beat the induction noise, plus I've always liked the out of bonnet look of the IDA.
its a bit of a unknown journey into what the auto can and can't do. truthfully if i could get the kick down to fit the VMAX blower, it would be ordered in a heartbeat.

Go for it, be different, i,m sure there will be the tutters out there saying its a no no on auto,s but. Ive fitted s/c injection to mine (just to be different) and even S/c say the kit is not for auto,s. I,m yet to fire mine up but am confident. If i was to be building one now, i think i would go down the turbo route, it has heen done although with the headache of the kickdown mech.

I can be contacted on martin@kmprecisionengineering.com I like the idea, I have a few points to consider though.... 1) IDA's fitted to ta Mini will need an air duct to stop it from syphoning at speed 2) Ideally you would need to create quite a spec for it to work, ie the IDA works better at higher engine speeds and the auto box isn't really set up for this... well not without a fair amount of work anyway, 3) From memory the linkage is on the wrong side, although this may be changeable. 4) These always used to be very rare and very expensive, but as Maniflow are making an inlet then I guess not such an issue now as in the 80/90's 5) Due toi it's flow a long 3 into one (like an LCB but all 3 meet under the floor appears to work well with the IDA. 6) The use of a race cam always works better with the IDA. Very interesting, I like your idea, but can I ask what it is you are trying to achieve ? A standard AP2 unit will not work with your engine, not well anyway, so whilst budgeting the engine costs don't forget to consider the extra costs for the converter and auto unit. Let us know how it goes, there's a lot of experience on here and I am sure most will agree, it's the modifications that people come up with that has kept the Mini "young"

I can be contacted on martin@kmprecisionengineering.com Derrington inlet manifolds are the best but trying too find one may be difficult as these were rarer than "hens teeth" 30 years ago., also there are 2 K&N filters go for the bigger one.

Polite note - I have moved this post to the "performance" section ... for it is most certainly a performance topic.
