I have a 998 a+ engine in a Trike project ive had the engine started recently but it is very difficult to push about in neutral like something is binding or dragging in the gearbox. There are no brakes fitted at present and all 3 wheels and tyres are blown up correctly. Can anyone suggest anything or are all Mini Automatics difficult to push about in neutral ? Many thanks JohnPaul.

I can push my car with one hand with the engine off in neutral. Definitely should roll easily. Does it make a difference if the engine is running or off? Lift it and make sure one side isn't binding.

Ive jacked the thing up this afternoon and the ns wheel is nearly solid and the os wheel is a bit better in every gear position. The Gear selector cable is disconnected and the engine has sat for at least 10 years.

Sounds like you either have a seized wheel or the transmission is not selected to Neutral. Can you select other positions without the cable? If you do not think the selector is out of Neutral, pull off the axle on the tight side and see if the wheel is tight.

The selector cable is removed and i am moving the gearbox selector by hand .It clicks but doesnt feel like it is doing any thing i guess it is seized in gear and needs to be moved or unseized inside the gearbox. This is new to me does any one have some advice or pictures for me. Thanks JohnPaul.

On Good Friday i had a few hours working on the trike,i removed the sub frame and engine in order to fit the spare engine ive got and
discovered that the ns wheel bearing is seized/collapsed.
So im going to replace that double check all the cv , pot joints, wheel bearings and reassemble it and start again in the next few
weeks.
Cheers JohnPaul

John Paul, Are you the same chap that posted photos of your trike a number of years ago and you are partially disabled too? If you are, I'm happy to see you have not given up on your project. Mark

I have been busy in my garage, the engine, driveshafts and subframe are all refitted again. You can now push the trike about easily with one hand. With a bit of luck i will have a go at getting it running again over the bank holiday weekend, Cheers JohnPaul.
