Hi, yes the washer(s) that sit between the bearing and its nut are thick I have only had experience of a single thick washer, the thin shims are between the bearing and and the gear and control the bearing preload. I found a drawing which only shows one washer but I can't copy it, if you have not changed the bearing, shaft or gear the shimming should still be correct, the Leyland manual I have is a little vague about checking the preload. The subject title is "Idler gear shims" but you seem to be asking about the input gear? Jock

Ok so early units used thick washers...later units thin as the input gear was made longer

Ok so early units used thick washers...later units thin as the input gear was made longer No thats not right at all.... The thick washer fits under the nut on the outside of the bearing under the low pressure valve assembly, whilst the shims which are available in several thicknesses from 2 thou (0.002") to 40 thou (0.040") in steps that bear no resemblance to any order fit between the bearing and input gear.
