I’m thinking about planning a turbo charged 1275 auto. The block, head, turbo etc part of the build should’ve be no different to the manual but obviously the auto box would need some upgrading to handle the torque. Realistically the bhp isn’t going to be record breaking compared to the manual, let’s say a ‘modest’ 120-150bhp. What upgrades do you guys think would be required? also what ones are a must have and what ones would be a good to have but not necessarily needed.

Ive currently got a full metro turbo set-up sitting on the floor in my garage, which ive been considering for a while. I know its been done before, and Martin does make the kevlar lined bands and clutches to take the power . You would need to cut out and weld in the box bulkhead modification to allow space for the turbo/carb/plenum, also you would have to rework the kickdown mechanism as the turbo sits in the way.

I’d considered the turbo being in the way of the kick down, and I thought of just moving the turbo to the side. A manifold could be fabbed with to offset it or to completely move it to another part of the engine bay

Yep your right, there,s a mirage exhaust manifold that does away with the bulkhead mod, and like you say the turbo can be moved around to where the servo is. The kickdown could be connected with a cable instead of rod.

I also make straight cut Timken idler sets for automatic and if you want to have a clutch in place of the converter I can also supply the castings etc to do that too. I would also look at either cable or electronic kickdown (one of my customers is currently doing exactly that with his 1293 16v auto.

Sorry for the delayed response. What would be required for a kickdown swap to cable or electronic? I like the idea of a 16v DOHC…
