Hi,
I have a 998cc A+ Auto 1984. The car has very low mileage 12k but unfortunately all of the rubber seals on the engine have gone very hard. The engine and gearbox are out while I carry out a light restoration.
I've just replaced the gear selector seal and the N/S driveshaft seal but looking at the O/S driveshaft seal it looks like the diff casing has to be removed. Is this correct, and is it just a simple remove and refit the casing with the new upper and lower gaskets? I am documenting the work on YouTube - Classic Mini Workshop.
Thanks in advance,
Keith Miller

Hi, I forgot to check my spare box so sorry for the delay, yes the RHS seal in the diff housing has no cover like the LHS, I assume your car has pot joints as inner drive shaft joints unlike the Hooke joints of the earlier cars. I believe you "pop" out the joint like later manual cars, please check your manual. Once the joint is out its a matter of hooking out the seal. You probably have to take the respective wheel hub off first. To do a diff seal I jack the car up on that side so the oil does not run out. Jock
