Just finished reinstalling the hydrolastic displacer to my Mini and recharged the system. I bought a 4 liter container of proper Hydrolastic fluid many years ago but its almost finished and as far as I know proper fluid is no longer available and the suggestion is to use cooling fluid/antifreeze. Anybody out there had any experience? Jock

I've been using it since 2004. Use a 50/50 mix. You can adjust the percentage but make sure you have it right for your coldest climate. Adjustments can change the stiffness of your ride. I can't remember if more antifreeze makes it stiffer or more water. Use distilled or demineralised water. Antifreeze is ethylene glycol.

If you look at the bottom of the ad there is a specifications tab. It mentions mini and metro also.

I was wondering if any members have experimented with different types of antifreeze and different percentages of antifreeze to water. I want to know what the ride changes, if any, are. Here we have two antifreezes, one orangish ( IAT and OAT mix) and the basic bright green mostly ethylene or propylene glycol. The orange we can't use because it will not protect the metallic components. In order to have proper protection from freezing, I need a minimum of 50% coolant. What ride difference would I experience at higher percentages of antifreeze?

I can be contacted on martin@kmprecisionengineering.com
There is apparently 3 different types of "official" hydrolastic fluid, however not all are suitable for Mini, it maybe due to the materials used, I cannot however speak from experience as the last time I had any dealings with hydrolastic systems for some years.
My information comes from various V.L. Churchill literature
