Hi. I returned to mini ownership in Feb with the purchase of a Rover Mini Sprite 1993 auto. I don’t know if this offends but it’s been retro modified to look like a 60’s Cooper. Almond green and Old English White roof. New chrome, 10 inch Cooper wheels etc. All was going well until 190 miles into ownership the auto gearbox has failed. Lost forward drive trying to climb a hill. I believe the forward clutches have failed it I’m not technical. Reading some threads I see that AP2 world are the experts at fixing auto boxes. I’ve sent an email via their website. So I’m hoping they can help me get back on the road again. Jonathan

Sorry to hear you are having problems with your new mini :-( Martin at AP2 World is certainly the person to help. There are a few checks you can carry out to ascertain where the problem might lie, starting with correct oil level. Try searching this forum for 'stall test' and 'pressure test'. Good luck and hope you manage to get it sorted.

Sounds like the forward clutch pack has failed, especially climbing a hill, not the hardest job to do on an auto box but an engine out job. But tbh if your going that far, your best changing all the usual suspects.

Thanks for the advice. Martin from AP2 world is going to rebuild the gearbox. He agreed with your diagnosis that the forward clutches have failed. Given the engine and gearbox have to come out I thought a full rebuild we give peace of mind. Hopefully Martin can start next week so it wound too long before we are up and running again.
