Hi all. I’m having an issue with my 1275 auto transmission. When selecting d the car starts off in 4th gear. It changes manually through all 4 gears with the selector fine. It also does not kick down and the linkage is in place. It has been working fine prior to this. It has had fresh oil and filter from minispares. Current mileage around 52k. Any ideas? I have tried adjusting the lockdown lever using the manual but this made no difference. Any Help greatly appreciated. Thanks. Paul

If it was working fine before Mini Spares did they do something other than an oil change with filter? It sounds to me as though the shift cable is misadjusted so you are not reaching D. The only other thing I can think of is maybe your kick down linkage is flipped.
Any other ideas guys?

Sounds like a fair starting point to me. Jock

Thanks for the advice. How might I be able to tell if the linkage is flipped?

Since you have the manual, it should be there. If not, let me know and I will browse my books.

Notamini thank you. My manual is very limited and not clear. So if you have a better picture I would appreciate it. Thanks

I found the section in my 1100 manual and copied it to a file. Sent a PM to your email with a pdf.

Thanks notamini much appreciated. Any chance of getting the last page please as that page section fa4 has the kick down adjustment.
Thanks again and sorry to be a pain.

Thanks again notamini for the extra pages.
I’ve spent all afternoon test driving and adjusting the kickdown linkage. Nothing has made a difference. The box seems to change down on slowing at a junction. But then pulls away in 4th. Still changes through the gears manually by moving the selector.
I suspect the governor is at fault. But I plan to check the Selector linkage tomorrow. But I’m not hopeful.
Does anyone know if the governor internal linkage can be accessed from the outside. Ie through the hole in the block under the fuel pump if I remove the lockdown assembly? I suspect the small rod is not inside the governor fork inside the case.
Thanks all
Paul

Hi, You could be right about the governor, yes you can access via the small hole below the fuel pump, I posted some photos on this site some time ago that show the correct position for the linkage which can be put in the wrong way. Check also that the governor slides up and down on its shaft freely, I did have mine stick once but the box would not change up stayed in first, I drove it around for a couple of days changing manually hoping it would come free but in the end it was an engine out job(two hours?) Paul, Jock, I asked myself; how could this have happened to the governor if it was working correctly before the oil change? Maybe some debris has lodged itself in the auto shift governor valve preventing it from sliding. I'm confused with the fact that the unit downshifts when slowing but yet it starts off afterwards in top gear.
