Hello,
I am stationed in Japan and just bought a 1998 Rover Mini. What is a good manual to buy? Mine has an automatic transmission. I am trying to figure out the proper way to check the oil and transmission fluid. I was told the transmission and engine crankcase share the same oil. Surely it takes automatic transmission fluid somewhere?

Ah! you have much to learn, Great little cars but not accepted by everyone, The power unit is similar to the manual in that engine oil is used both the engine and gearbox, there is a dipstick in the transmission case to the left of the unit. Oil is checked 1-2 mins after stopping the engine in a fully warmed up condition. If you are serious about looking after the car yourself then I would recommend a genuine Rover Workshop manual.

Ok, thank you. I will recheck the oil today. I see that the Haynes Manual does not include a/c or the Japanese MIni’s but focuses on the Australian version. Which manual do you recommend?

It sounds if the correct manual may be a little difficult, as far as I know the Japanese Minis were a bit special, I would not know if Rover produced a proper manual for a limited number of cars, How were Japanese garages expected to maintain the cars ? I would keep trolling the internet I have found lots of free downloads for various cars and bikes. Jock
