This has probably been beaten to death but I'm not finding the exact answer.
I have a 76 auto that works perfectly except a slight flare between second and third I think. It doesn't slip at all and just doesn't engage. If you drive it gingerly it works perfectly but as soon as you get on it a little bit it will hi rev then lock into gear. The transmission doesn't slip at all.
Is this something that I can repair by pulling the front Panel from the transmission? It seems more like a solenoid issue.
Thank you in advance

Hi, good luck finding a solenoid in the system its a purely hydraulic system with some mechanicals. Are you sure its 2-3 where the flare takes place usually its 3-4 ? Is it worse cold engine? Jock

Sounds like a slight band adjust if it's 2-3. I believe you can access from front panel.

I will double check this weekend to see if it's between two and three or three and four. It doesn't seem to change with temperature.
Is there any access to a manual for adjustments within the transmission?
Thank you

I would not rule out slipping from wrong oil or too thick. What oil are you using? Never 20W-50. 10W-40 motorcycle oil will give you the best performance.

10w-30 . Same results with fresh oil.
once its "in gear" it doesn't slip at all. Its just the transition. I'm hoping to get the car out this weekend to determine the gear change it happens in.
thanks. tom

Tom Do you own any manuals? If not, I do have some in digital form. I also have service bulletins etc for the APII transmissions.

I think I have those all downloaded. Thanks. Its just hard finding the part I want to see. (fix with the lump still in the car). I wasn't able to take it for a drive this weekend. I need to get it out this coming weekend for photos in the fall colors.

Are you using MA2 motorcycle oil or car engine oil?

I ended up ordering all the parts and tools from Martin. I've got most of the box torn down. He's been great to deal with.
I've been documenting stuff as I go along. Hopefully it will help others .
