Hi everybody, I own a Mayfair 1992 RHD (located in Mexico). This sunday drive reverse did not work. I went down to the engine to check what happend and found that there is a leak on the selector. I am using regular OIL not JASO MA2 10W 40. Hopefully somebody with some experience can bring some tips and orientations on how to fix this reverse. I share with all of you a video so you can see what I can see. Hi and welcome, I presume a sudden loss of reverse ? an oil leak at the selector rod is probably a faulty seal, since you are in that area your best hope of a quick fix would be to check the adjustment of the gear select cable. If that checks out OK I'm afraid you will have to do a pressure test to check if there is oil pressure when reverse is selected. Things get more complicated after that. p.s. I assume that the engine oil level is correct. Jock

Have you checked the oil level? If it is leaking, it could be low, and that would account for it, as Reverse needs 175 psi. It is best to check about 10 minutes after turning off the engine. Replacing that seal is easy.
As for your oil choice, you are destroying your clutch discs and bands. Modern gasoline car oils have extra slippery friction modifiers in them. You really need MA2 motorcycle oil (10W-40). Some Rotella diesel oils meed the minimum MA2 rating, so they are much better than gasoline oils, but Motorcycle oils will generally be near the top of the friction ratings. Replacing clutches is expensive.
If your oil level is good, your next step would be to check the pressure at the oil filter housing, changing out the plug in the top of the aluminum head to an adapter for a pressure gauge that goes up to 175psi or higher. I couldn't find one to borrow, so had to buy it. If that pressure is low, you have internal pressure leaks in o-rings, the copper pipe connections in the forward clutch area, or possibly stuck valves in the valve block.
