Hi all
I’m having a new floor pan fitted in to my 1970 mk2 woodie.
I’m not 100% sure the car was actually originally built as an auto. I wonder if anyone has a car with original floor or as it was/should be on the early style floor. The new panel has been produced with no gear change holes cut at all so it can be done right.
I’d like to keep it as right as it can be- should it also have the blank plate for the manual magic wand gear change?
Thanks
Ian

Hi, Can't say for sure but the auto change cable goes out through the floor/firewall in almost the same place as the original manual "magic wand" gearstick. Don't you have any of the original floor to confirm? whether the car was originally an auto the front subframe is different in the auto compared to the manual unless its been changed, is there any evidence the car had a clutch pedal? Are you sure the cable isn’t under the floor in the tunnel.
There is plenty of old floor remaining. It’s more a case of getting a pic to see if there’s an adapter plate to hold the auto gear selector in the gear stick hole. I.e. is the floor the same for both manual and auto.
There is an adapter plate in mine, it’s just not that OE looking.
The subframe is right but that may well have been changed along with the engine back years ago- the car has done 1000 miles since 1996 and as much as I have a big history file there’s not a mention of the engine swap. It’s clearly not the original because it’s an A+

I was going to post a pic from mine, but then remembered my front clip, although supposed to be automatic, was manual. But as I remember, the AP controls bolted in. Attachments:

Hi checked and took a couple of snaps, my car is a 1968 sedan Australian build, hydrolastic. the Australian body shells have some differences to UK ones, to my knowledge footwells, sills, the floor pan is different in that the hydrolastic pipes, fuel pipe and battery cable are run in tunnels with bolt on covers. As I said before the hole in the firewall is similar to the early "magic wand" manual cars. The gear change quadrant is bolted to the top of the tunnel(should be 4 tapped holes, I think) and the cable runs along the top of the tunnel to the firewall Attachments:

Forgot to add to my previous missive but in checking under the carpet I found the rubber seal that covers the hole has a couple of holes in it, can't think its going to be easy getting a new one unless its like the manual lever cover Jock

Yes a bit dark I know, in one you should just make out the floor mounted dip switch just above where the cable exits. Jock

I think the Aus cars kept the floor mount dipswitch until the arrival of the Clubmans in approx 1970. If you are referring to the gearchange cable being inside the car then I was unaware that UK cars ran it in the tunnel. Jock
