Hi All, I have a 1972 Mini 1000 Auto - 33k miles, teal blue. My 3rd Mini, and the first one with no obvious rust. Just had the original carpets bound, to keep them going a bit longer. Lovely car! Can anyone tell me what the dimension should be from the dipstick flange to the MIN line, as it's badly overfilled with oil? Best wishes, Charles

Hi and welcome, the oil level will rise when the car is left sitting as oil drains down from the hydraulics, to dip the sump get the engine fully warmed up, stop the engine and wait 1-2 minutes then dip, Jock

Firstly, welcome to the group. Since I have an 1100 I might have a different lenght on the dip. Hopefully a mini owner will step in. If you have no idea what oil is in yours we recommend you change it to be certain you are using 10W40 with MA2 motorcycle specs and not 20W50. Cheers, Mark.

Thanks Mark - I've been following the discussion on TMF about oil for the auto mini: people have different recommendations. The mini specialist I bought the mini from said only use Millers oil. Can anyone recommend a good 10/40 MA2 spec? Thanks Jock also.

Their motorcycle oil exceeds the JASO MA2 spec for wet clutches so, yes they have the right oil. ZFS10W40.

Any 10W-40 oil that meets the MA2 spec.
You should wait 5 to 10 minutes to measure the level of oil. If it is really high, it may be fuel draining from the carbs into the engine.
And remember, if it and non MA2 oil, or 10W-40, when you change oil (which I always recommend when buying a used car), you are only changing about ⅔ of it. The dry fill is 16 pts, whine the service fill is only 10, so 6 pints remain in the engine/transmission.
