Hi guys! My name is Maciej (Mike) and I come from Poland I found this forum recently (redirected by someone from theminiforum.co.uk). And I'm really lucky that such a board exists as I have tons of questions. I wasn't planning to buy an automatic Mini but an interesting, unfinished project appeared in my neighbourhood so I gave it a try. This is my first Classic Mini and it's Mini Mayfair 998 from 1991 (82kkm). It has all the body work already done and it's automatic. I know that it may not be a problem in the UK but in Poland I haven't even heard that someone had that kind of gearbox. The car is in parts and the proper work on it's engine will begin in 2 weeks or so. I only heard that a few years back car used to run great (it spent over 6 years in a garage though- in parts). I've already came across AP2.world site and contacted Martin. I thought about getting this big recondition kit from this shop but after reading a few threads here I started to have doubts if a classic Mercedes mechanic/specialist can handle this task (he knows how to deal with Mercedes automatic gearboxes). If not I may end up with shipping stripped gearbox to Martin 🤔. Attachments:

Welcome to the group. If you are not a confident hobby mechanic then I would give it to the Mercedes mechanic if he does automatic. The basic theory is the same for your mini but he must be confident with the peculiarities of this transmission (using engine oil and mounted in the sump). If you do not mind the shipping and you feel you can remove it and reinstall it yourself 1then I would send it to Martin because of all his experience.

If you have the shop manual and you want to try the Mercedes mechanic I would suggest you show him the manual to see if he wants to try a repair. He can always contact Martin for help.

The shop is to do all the reconditioning. I'm not touching the car. I will do my best to provide any needed parts. I've seen all these specific tools on Martin's website and this is something that scares mi a bit.

Ask Martin which of these are absolutely necessary.
