Hi, I have a -72 mini 1000 but the engine id plate are missing. The other day I were at a garage to complete the MOT, and discovered a numberplate at the underside of the gearbox. Could this be the enginenumber? I would post apicture, but didnt know how to do it. Regards Johnny Attachments:

I think that is for the final drive, 72/22 is the number of teeth of the final drive gears, I guess your car is a British one by the mention of MOT, The engine number is usually stamped on an aluminum plate riveted to the platform above the Dynamo/Alternator and the first thing that engine re-conditioners do before reboring or planning the block is chisel the plate off. Strangely Australian engines have their numbers stamped on the block platform, OK until the top of the block is planned. "good" to see you have oil leaks at the same place as mine, is oil leaks not an MOT fail? Jock

Hi and thanks for the reply. The car is in Norway and we have the same MOT as for the rest of europe (EU control, in norwegian) No they didnt remark anything about the leaks, because its only a few drops, not a big leak. Its an old car and they seem to be having that issue all of them. The engine number plate is gone, and I am trying to establish the type of engine, in case of need for parts. (Will be changing some gaskets and stuff a little later) The car is 1972 mod, should be 998ccm, and automatic transmission.

It is not the engine number. This explains what it means:

Hi again. According to this, my transmission should`ve been manufactured in 1967 then, but my car is a 1972mod. Is this normal? Is it possible to find the type of engine in my car based on the info on this plate?
Greetings from Norway Johnny B

Greetings from Norway Johnny B Likely the engine will match the transmission, it could have been changed but more likely it hasn't been. Was the mini originally an auto?

Is it not possible that at some time theoriginal box failed and was replaced with possibly an oldr one?
