Greetings, glad to have finally joined this group. I have a 1968 Austin America with an automatic. It shifts through the gears fine in manual, but in auto, seems just be in second gear from a stop and stays there. The governor was disconnected when I got the car. I hooked it back up, set up as the manual said, and still doesn´t shift. I drive it on errands manually, for now, but want to eventually make it right. I've got a good manual and a few successful automatic rebuilds in my past, but never one of these. Thanks in advance for any help in the future on procedures or parts sources! Kelly

Are you saying you have never done an AP automatic? Sounds to me like it was apart and, as in many attempted rebuilds, the internal governor linkage is backwards.

Yes its possible to put the little internal arm on the wrong side of the governor linkage, I also experienced an auto box stuck in 1st but drove fine in manual, I found the governor stuck on its shaft(rust), I did pull the engine/box unit and by working the governor back and forth with a screwdriver through the small 2 bolt linkage hole, still working 30 years later. I did post some photos on this site some years ago showing the correct internal position of the governor link. Jock
