As the automatic transmission was available from mk1 850's right up to the introduction of the twin point model (Sadly deleted at this point), I wonder if there is a general preferred model or engine size? I have owned three 998cc automatic Mini's and now own a 1275 injection model (1996). The 1.3 is clearly more powerful however I did find the 998 models to be more than adequate and quite nippy. What experiences do other members have of modification ie: fitting stage one kits etc:? I am keen to up the power of my Mini whilst keeping it subtle, I have fitted a Maniflow Cat back larger exhaust and this has made a difference.
As I'm sure everyone is aware, the Mini is very popular in Japan and they too like the automatic transmission - the automatic option was available for the Mini Cooper - but was was not available for Coopers in the UK. Does any member have one of these cars or know of their performance? Roger.

I have done a couple of little mods to Merri's engine (my 998cc 1968 woody), mainly LCB, Exhaust and adding twin 1" 1/4 carbs ... she certainly seems a little more nippy with these mods. With Maggi (my 998cc 1988 shorty) I have left her engine as standard, but as she is smaller and lighter than the average saloon she is probably a bit nippier than a standard 998 auto anyway By the way should this topic be in Mini Chat ?

I think peoples preferences may differ to whats around out there,if all Autos were still being made it would go on personal choice depending on what you want the car for However though i cant say for certain i would guess that of the Automatic Minis remaining on the road the vast majority are 998cc,followed by 1275cc,and I'm guessing there are very few 850cc models left I'm not so sure about ADO 16,s whether theres more 1100,s than 1300,s out there but id guess there are more 1300,s? From a personal preference id much Rather have a 1275 for all round usage as they are still fairly economical and have just a tad extra power when needed i really want a new project for next year we will still keep Boris though and the new one will most probably be a 998 Id quite like a 65 850 Auto simply because to us Auto Drivers our holy grail 59 mini equivalent must surely be a 65 But from the point of usability id probably only use an 850 for town use and shows Huggz Jodie

Thanks for the responses. Have I put this topic in the wrong section Holly? I'm fairly new to this so haven't really worked out all the sections as yet. Roger.
