Has anyone fitted an oil temp sender and gauge to their Auto? How and where did you fit the sender? I've seen senders in the sump plug, but I'm hoping for a less-vulnerable option! Cheers,

I don't like the sump plug option on any Mini due to the loss of the magnet in the standard plug. I have a dip-stick probe sender unit made by VDO that I have used in the past on various things. You just remove the dip-stick and stick the probe in and wire it up to the gauge with wires long enough to be able to dip the oil without undoing the wires. I will show it to you when you pick up that stripped bare mini shell from my place. ;D

Ages ago I bought an Omori brand gauge for the Moke that is half oil pressure and half oil temp. It has two seperate braided hoses to connect. I'm hoping to fit it so both functions work. But the temp sender has large bulb, not the standard small 1/8 NPT fitting most oil pressure gauges have. Maybe I should call it "too hard" and sell it to some ricer.

Ive recently seen a 998 manual engine that strangely enough had a gauge connected to where the oil warning light sensor should of been been trying to work out ever since what the warning light was connected to ;D Can get my head around a dipstick probe sensor? How do you get both into one hole? I have visions of something breaking off and swimming around the oil in your gearbox Could be wrong? Explain I too would like to fit a Oil Temp gauge plus possibly an Oil pressure gauge i also don't like the idea of using the Sump Plug Id be interested to see everybody's ideas and views on the best way to go about fitting both an oil temp and pressure gauges Huggz Jodie

Explain The probe is actually a replacement dipstick. You pull out your regular dipstick and stick it in the toolbox and fit the new temp sensor dipstick instead. You can mark the probe with oil level marks and there is an adjustable stop so you make it the same length as your normal dip stick. I will get some photos....

Ive recently seen a 998 manual engine that strangely enough had a gauge connected to where the oil warning light sensor should of been been trying to work out ever since what the warning light was connected to ;D All early Coopers, Super-Deluxe and Mini K (Aus) had no oil pressure light, just a gauge. You know, the ones with the big speedo in the centre and a 2" gauge either side in an oval housing. So it's not a prolem as long as you keep you eye on the gauge. Fitting an oil pressure gauge is easy. If you not fussed about the light working, you simply remove the light sender and replace with the oil pressure gauge sender (if electric) or the hose to the oil pressure (if mechanical gauge). If you want the light working, you simply buy a T piece the screws into the block and allows both the oil light sender and oil pressure gauge sender/hose to screw in. Unforunately I can't simply use a T piece to run oil temp and oil pressure. My oil temp gauge has a much larger fitting than the normal oil pressure fitting. So I've got to look at alternatives.

You don't want to measure the temperature of the oil under pressure. You want to measure it in the sump. It will be a lot different. Here is the photos of my oil temp sender.... And how it fits the auto box... This should make Brett happy.

i did a search yesterday and found a few pics of these dipsticks but the ones i found looked rarther cumbersome and clumbsy Yours looks quite neat though Only thing that worries me is the dipstick on Boris for instance is of a nylon/plastic construction and was also on my previous 77 clubman Has anybody else out there got a metal dipstick on their Auto? its a shame the dipstick tube cant be extracted and replaced with a dipstick tube sensor That way you could also keep your original dipstick Huggz Jodie
