How to Strip down an AP Auto Transmission in its entirety and then rebuild it again
There are many variants of Workshop/Service Manuals for the Transmission either stand alone or combined Manuals that have a dedicated Automatic Transmission section that show how to test, diagnose and repair the transmission but non that show how to completely strip the unit
You will often see magazines show how to completely strip a Manual transmission down to every last individual component but you never see this done with the Auto Transmission
Lets say you don't actually have a faulty Transmission but are carrying out a full vehicle rebuild restoration you want to completely strip and overhaul a perfectly good engine to give you piece of mind so why not the transmission too?
Stripped right down to all its components and every worn or damaged component replaced, machined or whatever is needed, gaskets,Seals,O rings all replaced to get the unit as near to new spec as possible
Nothing out there tells you how to strip one completely in the correct order so you end up with a kit of parts very much like the workforce at Automotive Products would of been faced with to assemble many years ago
So is anybody out there with the knowledge and a spare Autobox willing to do this and share your knowledge with us complete with comprehensive instructions and photographs?
I would still encourage anybody who isn't confident enough to do a home rebuild to employ a specialist to do this for you I'm not for one minute suggesting we all rebuild our own transmissions but feel this would be a useful resource for those knowledgeable enough to contemplate a rebuild themselves and very interesting indeed for those wanting to employ a specialist in understanding the complexity of the task they face
So any of you Brave Enough to take on this challenge for the benefit of everybody here?
