Hiya guys A while ago I was thinking about fitting an ultimate engine steady and the thought has popped into my head again. So has anyone fitted one? and are there any advantages of having one?

Hi,
Yes, I have fitted one. It has located the engine more solidly.
The only disadvantage is that it makes it a bit harder to remove the exhaust manifold or thermostat housing as the steady must be removed first.
Cheers, Brett.

I agree with Brett, The wife has one on her moke and it makes the engine alot more sturdy but can be a pain to work a round. Mark

Ditto to the other replies, makes the gearchanges smoother, takes the strain from the standard top steady making it less likely to break a bolt in the block or break the bulkhead bracket and reduces the chance of breaking the exhaust due to a rocking engine. Most of the specialists stock these brackets, used the Minispares verson myself for many years. If your are thinking of looking on ebay be wary as some don't fit to well and I have seen them with the bulkhead bracket bent the wrong way! Dependant on the age of your mini you may need to pass the heater hose through the bracket, some don't have a hole to allow for this. Cheers Andy

Hiya Andy thank you for your quick reply. My mini was made in 1989 so would I have to pass the heater hose through the bracket?? I don't know a lot about these things Thank you again for your reply and advice and I am always a little wary buying from ebay anyway when buying parts for Molly

With standard hoses your car will need the hoses to pass through the bracket. The hose in question is the one that rises from the bottom hose at the back of the engine between the radiator and the engine and passes through the bulkhead to the heater.I have fitted 2 of thyese brackets i the last 12 months and have cut what ended up being a teardrop shaped hole works well as it doesn't put the hose under strain as it passes through the bracket and doesn't rub on the edge of the hole.

Hi Minisniper, I'll be taken one off the greenie soon so you can have it if you want. I will no longer need it as I won't be able to fit it to the new engine. Mine currently is a 1275 and I'm not sure if the 998 and 1275 are the same

yeah I wasn't sure but I thought they might be different. If any body wants one it will be there or in the bin. It needs new rubbers on it though.
