The car seems to be dropping oil by the bucket load from both the front and rear of the Oil Filter Housing!
Could there be a hole in the Oil Filter? Or is it the cartridge!?
I thought i would let you people know as i also let the TMF know!
Its in a garage where people don't have the slightest clue. I am really worried about him! they tried to tell me that 10/40 was the best oil for him. And they also swore blind on his mothers grave that the Engine oil does not feed the transmission as well! I keep on ringing up to ask for updates and there taking an awful long time! I would take it to a different garage but the car is throwing oil out i could top it up and it would of dropped 10 minutes later!

Hiya Nile it could be the O ring either ends of the filter housing are kernackered Or Like what happened on Boris the central bolt was tightened too much and has distorted the bowl Is there anyway you can get the car away from that Garage? they seem like idiots to me All minis share the same oil engine and gearbox and though in some cases some people will use 10w40 generally in an auto you should always use 20w50 mineral If they put 10w40 in chances are it will be synthetic oil which wont do his gearbox any favours You need to get that car away from there and to somebody who knows what they are doing Is there anybody on here near Nile who can help? First off, i just want to say thank you to Sam, Jodie and Shifty because you were all very helpful in my time of worry!
Just to give everyone an update, i got shafted!
The bloke changed my Oil Filter and Oil... and fitted the rubber rings either end of the filter housing. Guess how much i got charged? £80 + VAT!
I didnt have a choice but to take the car to this garage and they quoted me thirty quid. The mechanic told me he would ring me before he did anything to give me a quote! They also said they would repair it first thing Monday Morning and i ended up picking up the car Last night. I was furious so i went down there to rip him a need poo hole and the cheeky B@asterd had left the keys and ran off home.
Oh and to make things better the car is still dropping Oil, just a tiny bit. After all this i rang him and he said that i might need a new case. I asked him to fix the problem properly not do a half assed job. It turns out he fitted two rubbers either end of the housing. Sh!te job or what?
totally devastated!

Im sorry we couldn't do more Sadly when you first get a mini its a bit of a learning curve and i think every one of us has been shafted at some point Sods law really your Mini will let you down when your out of your comfort zone and your local area Do you know what Oil they put in it? i know its hard but for peace of mind you may have to cut your loses on their Oil and dump it again if your not sure? To put everything into perspective we put Boris in for a new battery a year ago and ATS screwed our ECU A £60 battery cost us £200 in the end Then we got charged £50 extra on another Garage bill to stop a squeal on our brakes They still squeal So that Garage got £50 for nothing I know its hard but put it down to experience, get the car back down towards Shifty territory and get him to drop the oil and put real Oil in it We all care here if you had been down the road id of come and had a look myself Really Glad you got him back though Huggz Jodie

Hey, you think that bill bad, just wait till you get mine to do it properly!!!
Nah, its a shame that some garages have to stoop this low to make money. It could well be that they've damaged the housing, Hopefully this can be repaired.
Give me a bell when you get back and we'll take a looksie

I think we all except that garages have overheads etc but whats worrying is when they charge you top dollar for not doing the job properly You know the right Oil Shifty and you would know how much to tighten the Canister Bolt and how many O rings needed etc Sounds like the garage Nile took it to were numptys I guess what with the cost of Oil,Filter add labour and they are not that far off the mark I just hope for Niles Sake the Numptys ain't put orrible synthetic Oil in it

Im pretty sure that the Oil was 20/50. I asked them to leave the bottle in the boot for peace of mind. Yes it is 20/50. I have not heard of the make though.
Anyways onwards and upwards. Shifty when you next have a spare minute in the new year i would love you to take a look at Biff so we can establish if there is any Welding needed. Which im pretty sure there is. :-D

I have asked Shifty personally but does anyone have an idea where i can source an Oil Filter housing and all the additional bits that would go with it. Turns out Biffys is cracked hence the massive leaks recently. He has been off the road for almost 2 weeks :-( I have to get the train back and forth up and down the country :-( Eugh!

Item number 190364198578 on ebay is interesting. Yeah, its a whole auto engine... but the text underneath says "We also have lots of other 1275cc and 998cc engines and parts stock from a piston to a complete engine." So could be worth a call to them

I checked about 5pm last night and he said he has one for £30. what this means though I don't know if it has the aluminium bit and the steel canister - and to be sure its an auto one and not manual! Thought the same thing about the price of engines - but then it says they are for rebuild.... hope you get biffy sorted out

i think there a few pieces that are going to be replaced. The oil filter housing, this is the part that bolts to the block? With two nuts? The canister/assembly that looks like a fizzy can on its side, in which the Oil filter actually sits in. Now within that there is a gasket and a straight through bolt i think. All of the above will be replaced. so basically the full shabang! I have spoke to the gentlemen dave recomended and he is sending me pictures this weekend to make surei have the correct parts so hopefully the ball might start rolling! Cheers kiwihcn
