Can I remove the old Austin America (auto) diff and install it into an A+ auto box? I'm wanting to use the Hardy-Spicer drive flanges on the new A+ autobox so I can use the drive shafts in the Austin America for a more modern powerunit.
The reason behind this is that I'm assuming that the A+ autobox powerunit would have newer internals (and it works) instead of rebuilding the very used AA lump that I have tested and deemed bad due to a low compression reading of 60 psi across the cylinders.
Thanks all.

There are small differences between the 1275 A automatic dif and the 1275A+ automatic dif. I was looking into the reverse of what you are doing because I had an A+ auto which I'd planned on using while I rebuilt my A auto box. It's hurting bad A friend in Windsor ON area said it was much easier to just make new drive shafts for the pot joints. Cut off the spline on the AA long and add the correct length of Mini potted shaft. For the AA short, use a Mini long potted shaft. You have to swap out the dif parts because the castings differ and you will run into different diameters Also the oil seals won't fit right. I believe the bearings may not either. Since you are working in reverse to this modification, best Call Steve (Dr Mini) drmini@cogeco.ca Tell him Mark from Guelph sent you. Can I copy your post to our BMC1100 Google group posts? They might have more ideas AND, if you like, a home for the tired AA unit.

I'm pretty sure late ADO16 (Morris1100/1300) had pot joints. If you could get hold of the shafts from one of those you could just bolt in the A+. Maybe eBay or a UK-based specialist?

Been there They were used after'71 but trying to find a set available is like trying to pull hen's teeth. I have tried many times many places. If someone has them, they want them. Steve says it's a piece of cake to make the one shaft.

Thanks you guys on the diff info. So, what your saying is that just make new shafts for the A+ motor because the splines will fit in the outboard end that is going into the wheel, yes?
I think I've posted this on the BMC 1100 forum awhile back but didn't get a solid answer.

That's right Apparently, all the hub assemblies were the same for the 1100/1300 and the Minis. Outer splines are a match to the pot inner splines BUT the inners for the Hardy Spicers and rubber knuckled U joints were different. Something like Adam, one rib less. ;D You just have to take the one shaft, cut off the inner splines and extend it with a pot splined shaft end by using a short sleeve. Best to get the specifics from DrMini. He's done it a few times I think. I believe he's even converted the Diff over too but it was work. Selectngo... was that the Google BMC1100 discussion group? I know for a fact this was covered a few months ago on there.

Thanks notamini you've been most helpful...
I will contact him via email that you left a few posts b4. I own (wife's) 65 MG 1100 named Blackie and post on the Google group when I can but this one is for my AA that I'm upgrading to an A+ auto for my daughters future car. I've got a lot to do to it body wise by replacing parts of the floor and rear subbie attachment point inside the boot. I also post on Mini Mania's forum as GreenThumb because I own a 1964 Mk1 Estate. I guess you could say we are an "A" series sorta family.

Notamini..
Thanks for your help in getting me in contact with Wayne as he's been very helpful as well! Now I have to find out how many friction bands a newer A+ automatic uses so I can go ahead with the conversion. I'm hoping that it has 3 discs so it will be able to handle the extra weight of the Austin America, according to Wayne. Your a few miles from my brother in St. Cloud, MN.
Cheers M8!
