Am i the only one or do others get so fed up of projects that want to run for the hills Screaming I started Minki in January 2006, she finally got on the road in 2009 (only after a long gap in the middle where i really didn't want to do anything with her) but she still isn't finished yet as her temporary engine broke so she has been sitting without and engine since last year ... so really she's a project thats still not finished even yet. Everyone gets fed up with projects, normally it takes me a year on one before it starts to grate on me though

At least its not just me ;D I think I'm feeling a little sorry for myself because for the last month its just been constant, day in day out i wouldn't feel so bad if i could just tinker at my own pace I know it'll be worth it in the end though

I have found that tinkering at your own pace can end up worse in the end as the project seems to never end, and it can feel increasingly disheartening when your car has been off the road for over a year and a half and there is still no end in sight . When we did Mandi we used every bit of spare time we had (every evening after work and weekend) and managed to get her done in only 55 days. That was sooooo much nicer to see her come together quickly and not have to wait years for her .... but it was a tad exhausting.

i am sooo fed up with Dennis at mo i can't even be bothered to open the garage door. i still cant find the sliding window rubbers for the rear windows, i can't afford to replace them at mo so i still cant get on with him. its so frustrating cos apart from a new carpet set i have everything to practically finish him and get him mot'd, i just want to scream i even seriously thought about selling him the other day i was so fed up

Rosie, you wouldn't sell Dennis again! Remember what happened last time...
I'll be honest, I hate working on them when I have to, eg when something goes wrong and I need the car. Usually it's raining or snowing or something at the time.
But I find it relaxing to work on a project when I want to. They don't talk back (OK, sometimes they fight back!). I can get on at my own pace and do a good job. Though I agree with Holly that unless you have some sort of goal or deadline you can end up never finishing - my estate has been with me for 8 years and is no nearer hitting the road. But Evy the Clubman nearly got completed last year as I sweated to get her to the IMM. She made it on a trailer as I ran out of time for an MOT, but at least she was whole, with no holes, and drivable.
At this time of year when it's light at night and mostly dry, I enjoy being able to get in the garage for a couple of hours after work.

I know I'm luckier than most as I have a good sized garage with power and good lighting. Sometimes I don't feel like doing anything but I'm soon back in there. The Greenie is being built to a spec and fortunately it's never going to be a daily drive and I can take my time with it. I've been amazed just recently how fast it is now coming on. Just keep in there, you know it will be worth it all in the end.

We have plans to build a new workshop at the bottom of our garden during the summer. It will make life easier as I've outgrown my garage; built originally at a generous 9' x 16', I just have too many tools and bits around it! The new one will be a generous double with a two-post lift and partitioned spray area. True luxury!
