Hi Having just had Boris Restored his interior is next on the agenda His seats are fine and pretty tidy but his Original carpet is quite Shabby Upon looking around it seems there are either pretty Naff Carpet sets or Newton Commercial that are Silly Prices  It also bugs me that despite their price Newton Commercial Carpets have heel pads on both sides  When you consider that you can get a couple of SqM of top notch carpet for your home at a fraction of the cost of NC Carpets it makes Car carpets seem a Total Rip Off  The likes of Wood and Pickett and Radford used to have Wilton Carpets and Overmats so its got me thinking how feasable is it to make your own? Has anybody here made there own Carpets using Superior Quality Carpet off the Roll? Im Considering doing this and would appreciate any photos, hints and tips you may have on Cutting,Making patterns, and Fitting your own Carpets Huggz Jodie

Any hints or Tips Holly? I'm thinking of getting some really cheap carpet and having a go and once i have the hang of it redoing it again using Wilton carpet I figure even using Wilton will only cost around $40 ish as opposed to Newton Commercials £140 Don't suppose you took any pics at the time? Is the same Carpet still in Merri? I really want to have a go at this now Once Ive fixed our leaky Bath Tap ;D Huggz Jodie

we roughly traced an existing carpet, cut the shapes larger, gradually trimmed them to fit the car (also making new bits that weren't part of the old set as we did lots of the trim inside her in carpet too) and then stuck it all down with carpet tape. Yes the same carpet it still in her now ... some of the trim bits have faded now so we are going to have to do something with them, but the floor carpet bits are still looking good after 10 years on the road and lots and lots of use

Hi,
Myrtle arrived with hideous blue badly fitted carpets. Well I say fitted but some parts were missing and other parts were just kind of lying there.
Decided we couldn't do a worse job and headed off to the carpet showroom. Found a nice grey wool remnant to match the leather. It was marked at £120 but when I told them what I wanted it for guess what? I only ended up paying £40! ;D Used the existing carpet as a rough template and with a little bit of patience hey presto new carpet in.
We just have a couple of edges to neaten and then it's done. It looks so much better and it also helps soundproof. Next purchase some good floor mats.
I say have a go.

Wendy Hiya Wendy Did you have any problems fitting the carpet in the front up the bulkhead and to the right and left of the bulkhead? I'm just curious to know how it moulded round the lumps and bumps.

Hi, sorry it took a while to get back but have been very busy with Myrtle. We used the existing carpet to cut a rough template and then put it in place to check the fit. We used a knife to score the areas to trim and went from there. It's not difficult but it is fiddly and requires some patience. Frequent tea breaks certainly help. The other option is to use a carpet fitter. A friend of ours offered but we wanted to do it ourselves. It took a full days work to get it just right but was well worth it. Wendy
