Can anyone help? The standard Rover fitted rear fog light on my Mini isn't working, so I have removed the cover to change the bulb. All seems fairly straightforward except for a single flat piece of metal which came out as I eased the lens cover off; I can't work out where it was originally positioned? It's square with a half moon shape cut into one of the edges. Also the seal for the red lens now appears to have unglued from the lens - urrgghhh!
Any suggestions?
Many thanks, Roger.

The flat piece of metal sounds like it is part of the contact for the bulb. If the seal is OK but intact just hold it back in place with a smear of grease or similar to hold it till it is back in position.

Many thanks for that Clambod, I appreciate the suggestion regarding how to hold the seal in place. The square piece of metal is still causing me a problem in working out how and where it sits as it just fell out when I removed it.
Thanks again. Roger.

i couldnt get mine to work, the bulb and holder looked ok so i took the switch out and there was 1 wire off. put it on and still nothing, it took me another few days to realise that the lights have to be on for the fog light to work!!

That happened to me too ref' the lights needing to be on!!! Unfortunately I think the problem is not just the bulb, so the hunt goes on! Thanks again, Roger.
