I'm looking for a nice clean auto for my missus' 30th birthday, I would prefer low milage, and a long MOT, but obviously all things considered.
Anybody know of any nice examples which would like/need a new loving home?
Thanks in advance.

Hi, it really depends what sort of price you want to pay and how far you're willing to travel. Remember with an older car a long M.O.T is not a guarantee of trouble free motoring. Even with a long M.O.T Myrtle has required some work. Not expensive but time consuming. I bought Myrtle on e-bay. There are quite a few minis out there but not many automatics. Check out the for sale section as there are some cars available there and the members of this forum will be honest with you Good luck. Wendy

Hi Wendy, thanks for the reply, i agree, really i want a car that has been loved, as it will be loved by the missus. I'm looking to spend £1000 - £2000, but everything is negotiable especially for the right car.
I have my eye on a few on ebay at the moment, but i would prefer to buy from someone on here or other mini forums as i know the owner will be honest and will have looked after things.
cheers
P

I hope you manage to find what you are looking for, it's a pity you didn't ask on here sooner as Joloke has just sold her auto "Boris" which was in excellent condition however while you're looking just be very careful although there are some very good ones out there, there are also alot of junk. Good luck in your search

I know, I just missed out on Boris, and he looked like a lovely example. Still, the hunt goes on.

One of the guys in the Crewes-missiles is selling an auto clubby and I quote
"Ok Folks....Its time for myself and Smurf to part due to another interest!!
So Smurf will be sold with 12 Months MOT, 6 Months Tax.
She is a 1975 1000 Auto Clubman, Starts and Runs, and is in Ok cond for age! She will be going on Ebay next week when she comes back from getting her MOT, but thought i'd give you lot first look!!
If interested...PM Me as i dont wanna put my price on here as it may affect ebay bids!! Cheers!!"

Hiya Where abouts do you live? and how far would you be willing to travel? and how long before her birthday? Hello, I live in between Oxford and Reading. I would be willing to travel depending on the car - i once travelled nearly 400 miles to pick up an old scirocco, which is quite a round journey. Her birthday is not till 19th November. I've seen a few on ebay recently, and i spoke to the guy who has this up for sale cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370394611113&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_880wt_881Seems like a nice example and he assures me that the sills, floorpans, boot etc are all clean, so if i can get some time and it's still available i'm hoping to go see it next week. One of the guys in the Crewes-missiles is selling an auto clubby and I quote "Ok Folks....Its time for myself and Smurf to part due to another interest!! So Smurf will be sold with 12 Months MOT, 6 Months Tax. She is a 1975 1000 Auto Clubman, Starts and Runs, and is in Ok cond for age! If interested...PM Me as i dont wanna put my price on here as it may affect ebay bids!! Cheers!!" Thanks for that bud, but i am looking for a newer car than that to be honest. I know the hardcore here will groan when i say that, but the missus is not that fussed about the heritage of these cool little cars, she just loves the way they look. Really I want to get one as young as possible. What do you guys think of the one in the link? Cheers for your help Paul

Seems to be a good clean looking car from the photos. Remember to take a magnet with you to check the usual spots for filler.

Age is only part of the story with these cars; it does make a difference to what they're fitted with, but even the youngest cars are 10 years old, plenty of time to rust! So sometimes a slightly older looked-after or restored example can be a better buy. Mileage doesn't necessarily mean anything, but there are a few low-mileage examples still to be found - our J-reg only had 16500 on when we bought it (we've added another 6k in a year!)
Best thing is to look at a few so that you know what you really want - later cars are injected, which can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you look at it!
