Didn't get as much done today as I had hoped, mainly due to the fact I couldn't find my 1" 1/2 socket for the torque conv bolt First thing that surprised me was how clean the engine is Torque conv. had surface rust on, but nothing major After removing the governor, I noticed that the return spring has been damaged. When compressed, it was coming out of the side of the mechanism and getting trapped. Can't see this is cause the gear problems I've been having, but will replace it anyways Next up I noticed that the start interlock switch bracket was bent, I guess this is why I had to wiggle the gear selector to get it to start sometimes The forward clutch assembly is showing signs of damage to the casing, but nothing that would affect its operation. I'm at a loss to explain the heat marks, anyone got any ideas? Thats as far as I got today, not as much as I would like to have done, but at least I found somethings wrong. I also found loads of gunk in the valve block.

Thanks for sharing, the photos are great and a good reminder why we should replace our oil 'more often' try and avoid that bit of something doing this type of damage. Keep us up to date

No new pictures i'm afraid, but the car is back on the road on driving Am going to run in for approx 50 miles then change the oil again just to make sure I have got rid of all the gunk that was in there. Might also whip the front cover off and re-check the brake band adjustments
