Hi I am just wondering does anyone know what way a 998cc auto engine should turn on start up, is it clockwise or anti-clockwise?
Also I have just put this engine in my clubman and I am having trouble getting it to start, my coil getting to hot and I am not getting any spark at the sparkplugs, but got a spark at the dizzy, can anyone please help on this please?

the engine turns clockwise as viewed from the passenger (radiator) side.
I assume that you do not have electronic ignition.
Your really need to check the whole HT circuit: 1. Start at the coil and check all the connections. 2. the HT lead to the dizzy cap (condition and good connections) 3. dizzy cap, all contacts are present and good 4. rotor arm (clean the end contact with some fine wet 'n' dry) 5. points condition and gap 6. condensor 7. Spark plug leads (condition and connection) 8. Spark plugs (condition and gap)
If you find all of these are OK you may need a new coil but that's not a common thing to fail.

First, is it the correct coil? Later cars were fitted with a ballasted (9v) coil, while a Clubman will be wired for a 12v coil. That would make it get hot, though they do tend to get quite warm anyway.
Secondly, if you have a spark at the distributor - I'm guessing here you mean a spark at the points - do you get a spark from the coil? If you do, then the problem points to cap, rotor arm or leads.
Post back with more info - I've done so much on this lately trying to sort out Nemo I could just about write the book!
