Hi all, Minisniper has seen these before but I'll share with the rest of you. The latest project is the Greenie (as it is green). It is a 1275 and I bought from the Gatwick area as a non running rust bucket, which cost me another £300 to get it home. This was about October Last year Here it is arriving Here is the hideuos dash, which went in the bin. It had every light and clock you can think of. The wiring behind there is a right nest of wires. A new loom I think O/S front wing and front panel. Both sides are the same Front O/S footwell Front N/S footwell The the rear O/S Quarter panel had to go along with the sill and follwed soon by the door step. The O/S front footwell has been replaced by this time

All pretty standard stuff; though I admit I've never had to go as far as swapping the whole quarter panel (done a roof though!).
What year is that car? There's a right mish-mash of parts, but some clues suggest to me late 70s? With a disc conversion? Which would be like the recently deceased Harriet.

The mini is a 998 1976 Mk3. Although the engine has been changed to a 1275. The engine is coming out and swapped (along with loads of dosh) for a MED 1380 road/ race engine and box.

Great progress. That colour's not original is it? Looks the same shade as Evy, and I've completely failed to match that from a rattle can! Not a major worry, because she'll be getting a complete respray anyway. I can get Brunswick green at a good price which is close enough!

I don't know what the colour is either. It is going to be BRG BLGN25. I've sprayed underneath and the inside of the rear wheel arches witit but I'm not sure it is dark enough for me though. I'll have to think about it

Hiya Chris. I'm loving the progress pics as always. I only wish I had a garage the size of yours or even some dry weather would be nice so I can do some little jobs. How come you don't think the colour's right? Lea

Looks similar to what I got out of the rattle can - it's several shades lighter than expected. With a rattle can I wasn't surprised, but I would expect to get closer from proper mixed paint in a spraygun.

I just think it is a bit light with a bit to much yellow in it. The new racing green looks darker gree with less yellow. I might have a look down the paint factors and see what other greens are available. It would seem that BRG is just a generic term for a mid to dark green. There is no single definitive BRG

Here are the uptodate photos. I spent yesterday in the garage Cutting out the rear of the N/S wheel arch and footwell. You may rember from earlier piccies that there was a big hole there. I've been busy on the greenie again. I've cut out most of the rear of the front N/S wheel arch and all of the front N/S footwell, both very badly corroded. The N/s wing and "A" panel came off as well, along with the door hinge pillar. Enjoyed it though, as I used the plasma cutter for it. What a fantastic tool, it just eats through the metal, leaving a slot thinner than the thin cutting disks and the paint on each side of the cut is hardly singed. The plasma cutter is better than the angle grinder when cutting round corners and can get into tight spaces. I've got the hinge pillar back on and the new panel at the back of the wheel arch. Hopefully the footwell will be back in today. The footwell and wheel arch are all back in now, I'll get some pics later. I just have to weld the footwell from underneath this afternoon

There are several. Disregarding the metallic and mica variants, my list of paint codes gives BRG GN25 (1965-69), BRG GR29 (1961-70, aka BM079), BRG HAA (1970-1981, aka BLVC25), BRG HMN (1968-1972, also aka BLVC25).
There is also Brooklands Green, which is a similar and perhaps darker colour, HAE (1976-1981, aka BLVC169) or HYF (1993-1999, aka BLVC 1265).
GN25, GN29 and BLVC169 were also used on MGs (think MGB/Midget) of the same era.

Hi asahartz thanks for all that info. I'll definitely have to look into what I like best. Since the last post I have been back in the playpen. The footwell is now in and all welded up, with all welds dressed off. I used to use a grinding whell in the angle grinder. Now, I've discovered 36 grit fibre sanding disks, boy, do they take off metal. and leaves it much smoother. I will be using these in future. Some pics of the work today. Whilst I was welding underneath, I popped up the welding to see how things were going, as you do,when a molten gob of waxoil or other very hot gunk dropped on my top lip. Got it off smartish I can tell you. It's a bit tender now but at least I got it all done today.

Hi all, apologies for not keeping up to date but here are a few more piccies of the work. The foot well is back in now Subframe has been sandblasted and primed and its first coat of chassis black I bought some new minifins and a set of shocks along with a set of adjusta rides. The O/S one went in easy but the N/S wa a bit of a pig. Well they are both in now and this is what they look like It is now sat back on its somewhat scabby wheels

Well, Minisniper you won't have long to wait! Here are the footwells in Primer, etch and then 2k primer Whilst under the back end, whilst the subby was off I was poking about with a screwdriver and it went through the rear floor pan just above the Rectangular plate thing, that are at each coarner of the floor pan. You know the ones. the ones every body uses as a jacking point and should not. Well, I cut the back two off, the front ones went with the old footwells. and had some holes They have now been repaired. Also the guy that had it had yanked to hard on the handbrake that the bracket had bent the top of the tunnel and torn the spot weld out of the cross member, then made a botched attempt at welding it back. That has all been straightened and re welded too. I was in the garage last night trying to prep the inner wing for the etch primer. I cut off half of the front panel and the inner wing to which it had been attached was very rusty and thin. I'll have to cut some of it away and replace it. I was going to do it tonight but it's cold and wet. And here's the front looking a bit sad. I think I have decided what engine is going in there next year. It will be a 1380 but the top end might be a bit special.

Thanks for the appreciation. I just want to end up with a solid mini. Taking extra care when sealing joints etc Every time I touch the angle grinder some bit of it seems to just fall off.

Actually the plasma cutter has not been used a lot lately but what a fantastic toy, sorry I meant Tool. I'm hopfully coming to the end of the cutting bit now. I've just to cut the rest of the front frame off and then hopefully that's it. Getting much better at spraying now as well

Well here is the repair I made last night. It was that cold in the garage that my welding helmet lens kept misting up. I had to keep holding my breath so I could see. I cut out the thin stuff and used it as a template for the new bit. I bought some welding clamps years ago and never used them but they were ideal for the job last night. They clamp the two pieces together and keep them apart about 1mm. The idea is that as you weld you get full penetration. Ideal when you can't get behind easily. Here are the pics. Just got the other side to do I found out last night. bought the Christmas tree yesterday and we've had our first snow this morning (about 7mm)

I have a 3Kw fan heater in the garage but with a single skin metal door I don't think it's going to help. It was fine until I used the angle grinder. The air blast when using nearly froze my fingers to it. I'll be in there sometime today doing the other side (holiday today

Just Curious i know you etched and primed the underside but that green topcoat is it some sort of enamel paint? Might just be the pic playing tricks with my eye but it kinda looks like enamel(maybe im just a paint anorak ) ;D

The yellow is engine enamel as I find it is the best on drums and calipers, oh, and of course engines. The green is 2K It goes on wet and shiny and that is how it dries, shiny and wet looking. fantastic stuff, I love it. As it uses moisture in the air it's great for our climate.

Hi All,been doing a bit more to the Greenie. Here are a few piccies of what's been going on. Due to the massive modifications the last owner did. I decided that it was not worth trying to undo them, After all, the loom is 36 years old. I'll fit a brand new loom And here is the loom on the floor Most of the stuff has gone from under the bonnet as well. I had a bit of a struggle with the wiper posts as well. The interior has been stripped as well. Just the headlining to take out now. I was going to do it gently, but it cracked due to the low temperatures about -1 when I was doing it so new headlining as well. I'm struggling to get the accelerator pedal off. The nuts keep turning but not coming off, I guess the threads are stripped
