The roof was hard work holding the gun up. Not to bad when it's getting empty, but ,it gets heavy. I'm going to get a gravity-fed gun with a plastic bottle for future roof spraying. My JGA is sooo heavy, and with the large bottle hanging below the gun, quite awkward for roofs too.

As you know I sprayed the roof “Old English White” last Saturday afternoon and was not happy with the result. Tuesday night I flatted it down and re-sprayed it. It was a bit better but there was one small run and still some “Orange Peel”. I bought another 500ml of paint yesterday to re-spray it again today. Last night I flatted it down with 1500 wet and dry and it looked reasonably flat. I thought, “Get the compounding mop out and give it a go”, so I did. I used G3compounding stuff and it came up quite well. There were a couple of dullish patches down the sides, so I did it again this morning and finished off with G10 finishing compound. Cleaned it up and polished it, and voila! Well pleased with the result.

Hopefully I'll get the doors on tonight. The door openings and the interior of the doors are already top coated. I ordered some new S/S hinge screws a week or so ago. Now I cant't find them, I've had to order some more. they arrived in the post today. Here's the bonnet in 2k primer. I guide coated and flatted it down the other night ready for the top coat. I'm hoping to get the whole car done this Saturday.

It's looking very good. I'm sure that the end result will be fantastic and you'll find that all the effort was worth it.

I got the doors fitted last night. For some reason it just appears that the Top of the drivers door looks to be leaning in too far. The door frame was not altered. And I've adjusted it to the limits of the fastening bolts. Unless it is the new hinges. I'll have a look at it later.

I sprayed the bonnet and boot lid Friday night. Fantastic finish, unfortunately there were a number of runs on both. I flatted the bonnet and boot lid yesterday, when I got back from picking up the new modified Mk1v wiring loom from Mini sport. The problems I had Friday when spraying was that I had not set the spray gun properly. I set it up before starting last night and it was a good finish. Here's the bonnet And here's the boot lid. I'll have ago at getting the doors to fit better this morning and I’m hoping to spray the rest of the car today, fingers crossed.

This is my first body re-spray and I'll admit to be very nervous about it yesterday. I still can't believe how well it's come out, considering I gave it two coats. There are a couple of small sags, one I created when I touched the wing with the airline (Dummy that I am) and had to blow it over. There are some small bits that has somehow got into the paint before it dried. Flatting back and compounding will give a perfect finish. I've just ordered four small floods to give some specular lighting which should help on the next project.

Well done Chris That looks brilliant, I bet you're well chuffed with how it's turned out. I think you will have people queuing up to do theirs perhaps you should get an order book Most people manage with rattle cans as a respray is expensive. there are a few small faults in the paint but these will disappear when flatted back and compounded. Which most body shops do anyway. Yes, quite pleased with the way it's turned out. At least I now have more confidence next time, which will be Asterix.

I tried for hours a few days ago to compound the bonnet and boot lid with G3 but could only get a semi gloss. the paint had been on about 11 days. I was advised to try the new advanced G6. I compounded the bonnet and boot lid yesterday and this is the result The rest of the car compounded perfectly easily with the G3 and here is the back of the mini I was doing some sandblasting earlier and I thought I'd do the caliper I didn't do when I did the other one. This is what it was like when I took it off. And this was what it looked like after blasting Just need to get some etch on it, 2k primer and yellow engine enamel

I got some new seats on Monday night. a full set from an Alfa 156. Back green with green striping. Heres the drivers seat. They all need a damn good cleaning and a small tesr in the side which should be easy to repair. I don't know yet whether to take the covers of the rear seat of the Alfa seats and use them to recover the mini seats or to modify them to fit (it does have a centre arm rest)

I'm sure they will look smart when they're fitted. I would try and modify the rear seats to fit first - they'd be much more comfortable than the mini seats recovered. If that proves to be too difficult or doesn't work then you can recover the original rear seats.

I got some of that Farecla glaze the other day. I applied it last night. What a difference it made to the paint. It is now glossier and it has deepened the colour. Looks really nice. I'm hoping to get the pin stripes on tonight.

I got the pinstripes painted on on Thursday night and got the decals on last night. Just got to finish off applying the glazing compound and fit the front suspension and brake pipes before the engine is ready to go in.

the front seats will fit. I've just some rails to make to fit them. The drivers seat has cleaned up really well. I managed to get all the front suspension back together yesterday. I've just a bracket to weld in on the front of the front subframe to take the lower gearbox steady and the front brake pipes to fit and the engine is ready to go in.

I'm going to try and get the engine in tonight. It would have been earlier in the week but the gremlins have stolen the two bolts that hold the engine mount plate to the fan end of the engine and the bolt for the radiator bottom mount. New ones arrived from Mini Sport today, so hopefully it will be in tonight. It is a mini so it might not happen.

I was busy last night putting the engine in. It was made much easier by the invaluable help of a fellow missile who came round to give me a hand. got a couple of scratches on the paintwork in the process. I can easily touch those in and will be covered by the Bumper and grille. t's a bit tight in places but the bonnet does shut but only just I might have to make adjustments to the latch when I get round to fitting it. Next job is to fit the gearbox remote change, get the steadies on, drive shafts and Hubs.

At least I'll have more room to get the exhaust headers in without having to work round an inlet manifold. That's tonight's job.
