Probably easiest to pocket the spare block, unless whilst you have the crank out you wedge and blade it and fit a centre main strap

Tanks for the kind words. It better be good as this conversion is not cheap. A guy in my local mini club has one of these engines in a minivan, built by Morspeed. It was on the rollers at Mini Sport a couple of weeks ago and it was turning out 138.5 BHP from a 1380.

Yep, That's V'Animal. He only lives a few miles from me. He is currently working on another project. Fitting a Vtec in a round nose traveller with Mazda rear hubs. In normal use it is front wheel drive but if the front start to lose grip then the rear wheels start to drive.

How's the progress coming along on the Greenie? any sign of the engine yet? Funny you should ask that question. I went to collect it yesterday. Superb engineering that SC have done on this engineI put it in the back of the Fiesta. It was a long day, 9 hours of driving and then me and the neighbour had to lift it out. I've taken some photos of the complete engine and here they are. It is the first engine to have the radiator top bracket fitted. Ihave not done a great deal else on the Greenie as I've been busy fixing and / or servicing Fiestas Cougars and minis. Got to get my skates on as the clubby will be here soon. I'll start a new thread. It's called Asterix the Clubby.

I've been busy in the garage recently removing all the old paint from the shell. I've been coming out of the garage looking like a flour grader. Here's some photos of a "Naked Greenie" Just got to finish with the body filler and prep the interior and it will be time for paint. The roof will take a bit of doing as it is full of small hollows.

After weeks of filling and sanding I was finally ready to get some paint back on. I masked the windows andone door to reduce overspray getting every where. then got the big spray gun out and put a coat of etch primer on the interior I'm hoping to get the 2k primer on tonight.

Been in the grage again tonight. Here's the results. I took care on the exposed bits and they all look nice and shiny. but I've missed a couple of bits, so I'll have to get the touch up gun out tomorrow.

The inside is almost finished now. Just a couple of bits to touch in. Just need to get the wiring loom, I'll order it at Mini Sport this morning, and fit the headlining and that's done. I'll start on the doors, boot lid and bonnet next.

Went to Mini Sport this morning and bought the group 5 arches and ordered the modified wiring loom. I've been in the garage and managed to get both sides of the bonnet, boot lid and both doors etch primed. the patches you can see on the bonnet and boot is where the filler is. The 2k primer will cover those nicely.

Well, I managed to get the doors re skinned today. The outer surface of the skins had runs all down them. I think an apprentice must have sprayed them with the catophoretic paint. I've really had to do a lot of sanding on them. I've also fitted the arches with Rivnuts. I'll be prepping very soon now for the etch primer.

A bit more progress today. I've managed to mask off all the openings ready for the etch primer. Had some problems at first as the roll of masking tape i picked was next to useless. When I found the proper stuff it all went quite easily, once I had figured out the knack of doing it. Big cleanup again.

Tonight's the night . I'm going to get the etch primer on. I'll let you know how it goes. I've got to admit to a degree of nervousness and trepidation

Nah don't be nervous. My painter friend told me "Josh, you can paint. If you bugger it up, just suck it up, rub it back and start again" Looking forward to seeing your progress

I was in the garage tonight with the spray gun and the results were much better than I though they would be. Almost perfect except for a very small sag on the N/S rear quarter, which will flat out really easily tomorrow. This grey etch primer is much better than the yellow one as there a lesser tendency for it to run. Roll on the 2k primer.

It depends a lot on the quality of the gear you use I find, though primer is fairly forgiving anyway, it's the topcoat you have to watch!
I have a cheapo Clarke spraygun which came in a set, which I use solely for primer - basically it's a bit crappy! But for topcoat I have a deVilbiss JGA, and that's different again! Great gun. Great results. What can be tricky is changing to different paint types - really you need the right jets in the gun; my JGA is set up for celly, so spraying other types is a bit of a learning curve. I did OK with Skye and the truckcoat, but there are a number of areas I'm not completely happy with. You have to get close to tell though!

I started out with a siphon gun with a 1.8 nozzle. I'm using a HVLP gun now with a 1.4 nozzle. I get less over spray so save on paint and air. As Chris says It's down to the gun settings. the etch primer is quite thin but this grey stuff is much better than the yellow one I was using. I've had quite a bit of practice now so I'm finding it easier than I though. I just hope my good look continues. I didn't get the 2k primer on last night as I was fitting the seam covers and filling some pin holes I'd not noticed before. It's surprising what you miss until you get an even colour

Got the roof sprayed on Saturday afternoonbut I'm not happy with it. I'm going to flat it back and either recoat of compound, I decide later. Spent yesterday rubbibg down the guide coat on the doors and boot lid. I got the hinges and interior side of the doors top coated.
