"Merri's 1st Trophy of 2009"I was dead impressed on the Wirral to Llandudno run at the beginning of the year when we got back to Merri after we had been doing a little shopping in Llandudno, a group of Marshalls were standing at the front of her and as we approached they asked "Is this your car?", we worriedly replied yes only to be told the good news that they had decided to award her the Classic Mini of the Run Award ;D ... well done Merri, a great start to the Mini 50 year "Merri's has a problem on the way home ...."We were merrily driving home from north wales on the monday after the run and then when we were around 100-ish miles from home around Telford Merri seemed to develop a little problem, in that her dynamo stopped charging . We didn't really have the tools to fix it with us so we had no choice but to continue on in the hopes that there was enough power in the battery to take us 100 miles, we instantly turned off the heater and unplugged the satnav. It was wet on the motorways too which was a pain but we decided to just have sidelights on and only use the wipers when we really had too ..... It was a nail biting journey but we did just manage to make it back home . We got a chance to have a look at the dymano the following weekend and it seems that some leaves had managed to get inside and mess things up a bit and dissconnect a wire ... a bit of a service and a clean up later and it was all back in working order, so Merri lives to fight another day ;D

What a Fabb Project thread ;D Reminds me of how things used to be when you could buy Minis for a fair price My first mini "Spud" cost me £700 the very same year you bought merri, fast forward 9 years and we have to pay over £2k for a mini How times have changed Id love an estate maybe next year? And i do agree with you regarding new cars i hate them too We currently have a golf aswell but its soo boring to drive My partner Sam has a little citroen C2 thats quite Cheeky but the Golf is definately going next year i think we will allways have one new car but if i had my way we would have a fleet of Minis,1100s,and Metros Boris may eat our Bank account but we allways get out of him after a journey smilling ;D Huggz Jodie

We had a nasty suprise the day before the Newark Mini Show recently when we found that a chunk of Merri's rear valance had rusted an fallen off on the drive ... We managed to weld a couple of little patches in to tide us over until we get a new rear valance ... looking just about respectable again so that she could attend the Newark Mini show ... She made it to the show ok ... And won a Pride of Ownership trophy too ;D ...

it was soooo cold on our trip to Wales this last weekend that Merri's roof aerial froze and snapped .... there was around 10" at the holiday cottage when we got there but we had a few more inches fall and we had to dig Merri out one morning ;D ... The scenery up there looked stunning in the snow though ... We only had a few minor problems other than the aeriel, a lead fell off the coil on the way over, the indicators stopped working and the headlights were a little iffy. But apart from that she handled the whole trip really well

Hey Holly good to see you keeping the dreaded rust at bay Looking back through Merri,s Project i wish it was my project I all too Often don't feel involved enough in Boris I had great fun doing his doors,A panels and Front panels and Valances late 2008 If Aerosol Cans weren't soo expensive id of painted the whole car as hes slightly different shades Then Again id of also had a go spraying him with a gun but we don't have a Driveway or a Garage Boris is getting some TLC this year in the shape of new doorskins,A panels, and correct OEM outer sills as opposed to Oversills He Will then be getting a Full Respray We have a friend who is a Sprayer by Trade and Has a Bodyshop and we know Boris will be Fabb and have Flawless Paint then But deep down i wish i was more involved doing it myself if it were practical Im determined sometime this year I'm getting another 2nd mini and I'm going to do everything myself on a Shoestring Budget My Admiration Goes to your hubby for proving you can get a Quality Finish with a home spray job even outside in the Open Well Done Huggz Jodie

Todays Merri progress ... we continued smoothing of the bodywork in places, getting closer to being able to do the topcoat, but that will have to wait until next weekend now ... Merri's wood is starting to get a bit of water seep through in places so its time to do something with it before it turns to rot ... all the affected areas are rubbed back to bare wood again ... after a lunch break we find a helper wating for us ;D ... we dig out the old stain and varnish that we used to coat it 10 years ago ... hmmm so thats why it need re-doing now !! a couple of coats of stain and its already starting to blend back in. We still have the varnish layers to go yet before it is finished though ...

Looks Fabb Holly Brings back memories of being little, everybody used to buy accessories to tailor their cars for their own needs and if something wasn't available they would make it like your doing Its sad that these days cars come with so many options that nobody needs to personalise or accesorise anymore and if they do they just look much like any other car Come to think of it most people with New modern cars these days don't even wash them Thats why i like Minis and classic cars in general no two are the same Cant wait to see it covered
