That sounds great , I like the tone from the rear , nice and deep I dont know if you noticed , but in the first 13 seconds of the video there's sparks (or something bright like sparks) coming from the crank area , bottom right of screen, radiator end. Could be something there thats touching where it shouldn't. Hope this helps Shrapnel

After watching the video I saw those too. I had a look later and there is nothing there that could do that. The only thing I can think of is that the belts are new and there was initial static build up. Just glad I was no where near it.

Oh boy does that sound sweet! I bet you can't wait for next year's show season now! I've been asked by the BMC if I would take it to the mini showdown next year for a bit of drag racing.

How are you getting on with the motor ? Hope all's well . Shrapnel Been having some issues with the engine. To begin with it was only firing on 2 & 3. I swapped No. 1 and 4 leads on the coilpack and No.1 was running fine but not No.4. Changed the plugs to non resistor type no better. Changed No.4 lead for another new one, no different. I swapped No.3 and 4 injectors round as I knew No.3 was working OK. Still noting on 4. I spoke to the guys who built the engine and they said check for sparks on all 4 plugs. They were fine. they then said to remove the fuel rail, with injectors and sit the injectors in small jars and crank the engine, which I did. Nos 1, 2 and 3 injectors were squirting well but not No 4. The ECU went back to them and it was a faulty chip. The ECU will be on its way back tomorrow so it should be running perfect by Christmas. I'll video it and post on Utube.

Ah the joys of the electronic/computer driven engine , glad to hear it mite be getting it sorted. Did ya work out what the noise was ? Shrapnel Yes, it was a faulty brand new starter motor. the teeth were working there way into the ring gear. I had to buy another starter motor, which works fine now. If it happens again I'll have to get a high torque starter.

Hiya Chris Sorry to hear about the problems with engine, how you getting on now? Have you managed to sort it out? Lea

Not managed to sort it yet. The ECU had to go back and was found to have a faulty chip, hence no fuel to No.4. That's fixed now but 1 & 4 has only been firing on the exhaust stroke (Wasted spark coil pack). I've bought another coil pack which I'll fit when I get over this flu.

The coil pack I've bought is a Bosch one. I just seem to have been jinxed with brand new things being faulty. I'm reasonably confident that it will be firing on all four very soon. I've made the dash and it has been veneered in Black American Walnut. Just got to finish cutting the veneer around the instrument holes and lacquer it.

A quick update. The fuelling problems are still persisting. 1 & 4 still won't tick over when the cold start come off. It will rev though. I've changed plugs, leads and coil pack to no avail. I learnt last week that the fuel rail pressure should be 3.5 Bar not 3.0, which it was set at. Hopefully this weekend I'll get chance to get the ECU back in and running at the higher pressure. Front seats have gone away for repair to a tear in the side of one of them. The Alpha rear seats have been stripped of the covers and foam. the frames have been cut and welded to fit. they should be going away next week to be have the foam and covers cut down and refitted. I've finished veneering and lacquering the dash I made. Most of the gauges, switches and warning lights have been fitted, along with the Digidash. Just waiting for the Lambda gauge to arrive so that can be fitted and then the dash can go in. I went to Bingley hall on Sunday and bought loads of bits, including a set of 7 x 13 ultralites with old English white spokes, fog and driving lamps, new grille, window seals etc, etc. I've also bought a set of seats out of a BMW 320 for Asterix the clubby. I got a full set of billet alloy interior handles etc from DSN whilst I was at it.

I fitted the headlining myself and it was less than good so I got a professional in to do it and it now looks much better. someone else came to fit the alarm and immobiliser system yesterday. I've fitted the glass, exterior handles to both doors now and is starting to look like a mini again. A slight mishap yesterday. I was fitting the N/S door glass when it just shattered. It took me over an hour to clean up the mess inside the door. I had a spare pair of green tinted ones (Manufacturers tint in the glass). The drivers door is clear so that has to come out now and be replaced with the other tinted one. Bespoke door cards have been ordered and should be here in a couple of weeks.

I had a spare pair of green tinted ones (Manufacturers tint in the glass). I think that's called "Sundym" glass. Often fitted to limited edition cars. My Jet Black certainly had it.

I finally got the Greenie's engine running properly the other Sunday. the problem had been low fuel rail pressure I had set it to 3.0 Bar, as instructed. I found out after weeks of messing that it should be 3.5 Bar. I reset the fuel pressure and it ran perfectly. That day it was very windy. The car was covered in polymask from the top of the windscreen back. A gust of wind blew it into the engine bay. The fan picked it up and sucked the whole length in. It smashed all the fan blades off and pushed the cam belt back into the block and the engine stopped dead. I spoke to SC and they suggested slowly turning the engine over and moving the cam belt back into position. I managed this and the engine turned over smoothly. I then checked the compression and got 0 on all cylinders. Fearing the worst I spoke to SC again. They said to take the engine out and take it back to them. It went down last Wednesday. They took the cam cover off and found that the exhaust valves were 1 degree out and the inlet valves were 30 degrees retarded. The good news was that none of the pistons were marked and a later leak test confirmed that all the valves were seating properly. They just have to fit a new head gasket and cam belt and then I'll go and pick it up again. I think there is a lesson in there somewhere, as it could have been sooo expensive. Just waiting for the interior to arrive and I'm hoping it will be on the road late March early April

I've finallymanaged to get the dash in that I made. It's taken most of yesterday and today. I'll find out what does not work when I get the power back on. I also managed to unload the peugot of the engine today. That's sat on the floor ready to go in again

The engine is now back in. Just got to connect all the stuff up now. The door cards arrived today. I just need to get the clip things to hold the door cards to the doors.

Those cards look very nice - they'd be perfect for Evy! (Who is finally sitting in my garage even though I haven't got the door fitted yet!)
I've got loads of clips, rescued from other cars I've broken. Some of the Toyota/Nissan ones fit.

I bought a load of new clips last week and a pair of metro door pockets with the speaker mounts in them. I got the drive shafts back in last night. Just a few connections to make for the ammeter and get the bottom hose on, and it will be ready for firing up again. There will be nothing loose in the garage that can get sucked into the engine again. Cut down and Recovered Alfa rear seats arrived back yesterday. Not many minis will have a rear centre arm rest.

A bit of a progress report. The engine has been topped up with oil and water and I fired it it up last night, running sweet with a really quick pickup. Just all the lights and electrics to check now and it's nearly ready to fit the bonnet.
