i got 7 cut off wheels today and 3 grinding wheels, so im set on that, i can't wait to get the seam work done so that i can finally get around to pulling the front subframe so that i can pressure wash it and sand blast it and get some paint on it

i pulled the engine last weekend and cleaned it up all this week on my lunch hr, eat lunch real fast, and then spend like 20mins cleaning it and then back to work and then like 20-30mins when i got home from work just alittle bit at a time i used fuel and simple green with small wire brushes and tooth brushes to get it clean and then friday night, i stayed up to like 2-3am getting the last of it cleaned so i could start painting it i used a rust high heat paint, satin black is the color i went with for the engine, this is the engine with one coat on it i got another coat on it and the tc cover installed and painted last night but havn't took a pic of it yet

i still need to paint the valve cover and T-stats housing, but i can't find the valve cover cap, so i think im just gonna buy another one, so im gonna wait on painting that until i get another cap or find it
and im thinking about buying the billet t-stats housing from dsn classic, not sure how much it runs but i saw one on a car in person and it was nice
last week i got a black billet open flow heater valve thingy from dsn classic and its super nice, havn't taken any pictures of it or installed it yet, its still in the bag

That's coming along nicely, not too sure about the colour though. but it is nicely painted and I'm sure it will look good in the engine bay.

i got the starter painted the same color as the engine
and i pressured wash the front subframe, no more oils on it and what not
i used a heated pressure washer, 80c to heat the water up
now i need to sand blast it myself or find out how much to get it done or get it zink coded

Looking good i love this project its soo old school Way to many just do cheque book restos these days i know if said it before but you are building a car you can use and have fun in rarther than a museum piece that you would be to scared to use Engine looks great, colour is different but its clean and tidy and fits in well with your Minis Image Plus it will always look clean ;D Whats the Story with the Metro doner car? It looks a shame to break or is it rotten where the eyes don't see Keep up the good work Huggz Jodie

i would say its probably about 95% clean, the front clip in the center, has a small little dent in it, and thats where the rust is on the car it belonged to a old lady, she stopped driving it and then gave it to her son, witch he didn't like the car, so he never drove it, the last mot was done in 07 on it
the car started up and i drove it around and drove it up on the trailer it was running really lean but oh well, i played with the carb a for a few days and then i pulled the engine and harness, pretty much gut the car
i think im gonna get a rebuild kit for the carb or go thur it, i think it just needs a good cleaning inside of it, plus i need to put a new needle in it for the stage 1 kit
i have a stage 1 kit from dsn classic, but i didn't go with the intake set up form them the intake i have for the car came with it in the box of parts i got when i 1st got it i was told the intake is from a metro, but its an alloy intake and doesn't have the exhaust built into it
so i have no idea if it is or not, but it looks to be inside of it, all smooth out but i need to clean that up get a plug for it and paint it,
i think for the carb, im just gonna get a black piston cover and leave the rest of it along, as far as color goes for it

did some calling around about powder coating the subframe black, most places in my area want between 65-75gbp plus vat they are gonna blast it and coat it and with a 3 day turn around, so theirs a few places i want to go and see what their work looks like in person before i let anyone do the work on my parts

well, i did some looking on somerford mini site and i looked up the manifold part number and its a cam-6618 looks like the intake is from a 90-91 cooper or mg metro

removed the last of the parts i want from the metro tonight
theirs was a place that came around asking about the metro, what i was gonna do with it, a scrape yard place, im gonna give them a call tomorrow and see whats up, on the side of their truck they said they pay 150gbp, that'd be nice if i could get that much for it, now that its stripped
if i get that much, i could probably order up a coil conversion kit and do away with the rubber cones
i was lookin at the red ones from P&L minis

Just a thought but as i think it will be a shame to scrap whats left of the Metro have you thought of contacting the Metro Owners Club? Better to sell it to be stripped by somebody who loves metros Rarther than it be cubed

www.metroownersclub.org/there a nice bunch I'm a member but cant remember my passwords oops A few of our members with metros are members there Just thought Rather than cubing it you can sell it there, you never know somebody might put another engine in it and put it back on the road? Or alternatively if you break it,doors, glass, lights, interior etc you may make a little extra selling the bits on their forum? Id contact them its worth a try

still havn't got the front subframe over to get powder coated but i got the last of what i needed done to it tonight so now its really ready to go this time
i built my brace bars tonight out of some 1.25 sq stock, i think i used .120wall thick metal but im not sure i don't think it was .180wall but i know its alittle over kill vs the metal that was used on the one my buddy let me use as a mock up one, i don't want to say the brand new of the company that made it but i will say that i didn't care for the way they bent the metal
but it was good enuff for me to use as a mock up i want to get the brace bars powder coated also but not right now
i mounted the starter tonight on the engine, i gotta order a filter housing gasket the motor is slowly coming back together

A breaker will pay less especially if they have to collect, since you've removed the most valuable bit! As regards the coil springs, I don't know how good PL's are, though I saw them when I was in there a couple of weeks ago. I do know I've heard a lot of good things about the Minitastic kit though.

im cleaning up my work area, because i want to be able to move my mini inside when its raining so i can weld on it, and so im taking a plastic rack unit apart and moving all the parts i have waiting to be installed out of the way and i found the valve cover oil cap that i had been missing, so now i can finally install the valve cover with new gasket onto the engine, i was gonna buy another cover but now i don't have to, saved me a few pounds
and i found a brand new oil filter to tranny gasket, i know last yr i got a gasket kit from mra-mini's because i was gonna swap gearboxes on my old 998 engine but i never got around to the job and the new gaskets where taped up in some card board and fell behind my tool box and i forgot about them
so i cleaned the cast part of the auto filter housing, and painted it tonight in the next few days im gonna paint the part that holds the filter
i cleaned the base of the dizzy over the past 2-3days and painted it tonight also,
just waiting on parts to dry all the way and i can start installing them onto the engine

not much of a update to post but i did get a few things done on the car, its just so hard to keep on working when its so cold outside i ended up not powder coating the subframe i ended up painting it with some rust paint, then bed lining the subframe and then painting it again with some high heat paint, the same stuff i used on the engine, satin black i gotta take a pic of it still tonight after work i got some space heaters out and did some lite hand sanding on the car for a good 30-45 mins and then at about 9pm i went outside for a sec and took a pic or two of it, the car is covered in sanding dust and ice
